Salt and Light
Salt & Light
In the time of Christ, salt was used for two things. First, it was used as a preservative, particularly for meat. Because there was no refrigeration, salt curing was used. Secondly, it was used as a seasoning to enhance the flavor of food just as it is used today. But if salt is no longer salty, it’s worthless. In this analogy, Christ encourages us to remain as a preservative of the faith and an enhancement to those around us. People should feel our presence adds value and they should feel the presence of Christ in, and through, us. We are to be as SALT.
So, then, what does it mean to be the LIGHT of the world? As Christians, we are to be light in a dark and sinful world. We are to reflect the light of Christ and shine before humanity through how we live. We are NOT to hide all the good works we do on behalf of Christ; but, we are to freely and openly do good works in his name, that God would be glorified. Never for our own fame or fortune, but to glorify God.
One morning, this scripture seemed to jump out of the Bible while I was studying. I pondered it and prayed about how I might be more salty and more luminous in my living. Then I felt inspired to create the Salt & Light Collection.
I created this jewelry collection from mother-of-pearl beads, silver and gold Czech beads, agate and wood. The tones of white and silver represent Salt while the warm tones of yellows and gold represent Light. My prayer is that all who wear it will be reminded WE are the Salt and Light of the world.
Still,
Jai
